Quick and easy to make, milkshakes are a true guilty pleasure we like to indulge in once in a while. Try these delicious recipes next time when you're in a mood for something sweet


With milkshakes so popular nowadays, we might be tempted to think they are a relatively new dessert. However, references to milkshakes as a dessert have been used since the early 1900s. In more recent years the popularity of these delicious beverages has skyrocketed thanks to the great variety of ingredients that can be now purchased to enhance the flavor of this savory dessert.

Among the most popular milkshake flavors, chocolate, vanilla and strawberries rank as definite favorites. Although traditional milkshakes also use ice cream, those who want to enjoy this dessert without having to worry too much about calories can make several alterations to lower both the fat and the calories content of this healthy beverage.


Using low fat milk or soy, almond milk, skipping ice cream or other similar additions altogether are just a few examples that show the great variety of possibilities we have when it comes to customizing these recipes. Here are some simple recipes of some of the most beloved milkshakes:

Chocolate milkshake

  • 1/4 cup of milk


  • 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream


  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter


  • chocolate chips


  • Blend the milk , chocolate ice cream and peanut butter for one to two minutes and add the chocolate chips. If you don't have chocolate chips you can also use chocolate syrup to enrich this milkshake recipe.


    Vanilla milkshake

  • 1 ½ cups of milk


  • 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream


  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract


  • 2 teaspoons of sugar



  • Blend all the ingredients until you get the desired consistency. Adding cream to enhance the taste is optional.

    Strawberries Milkshake
  • 2 cups strawberries, hulled


  • 1 cup of ice cubes


  • 1 cup of fortified milk


  • 2 cups strawberry ice cream


  • 2 tsp white sugar ( add more if desired)


  • Blend strawberries, milk, sugar, ice, ice-cream together until smooth and add your favorite ice cream flavor for a richer taste.


    Mango milkshake

  • 1 cup of mango pulp


  • 3 cups of milk


  • 3 ½ tbs of sugar


  • 12 ice cubes



  • Blend the ingredients for approximately three minutes. Other fruits as well as whipped cream can also be added to the mix if you like more complex flavors.
